Legend has it that on this day, Saint Ocho chased the snakes out of Mexico - straight out into the ocean.
Of course, about 10 months later Saint Patrick chased them all back, but what a glorious 10 months it was.
Also, that is why it's impossible to find good Mexican food in Ireland.
